And here we are again. KingZilla and Bro Blake are releasing new singles one after another. It's sort of like a musical machine gun, lol! Bang Bang Bang! "Aqua Velvet Satin Slip" is the newest single to grace our ears here at Indie Music Plus. We've reviewed KingZilla quite a few times now over the years, and he just keeps getting better and better! Having said that, I'm not sure this is my favorite single. There are just some things about it that don't jive with me all the way. Let me explain...
My initial listens let me know right away that this is KingZilla. He has such a unique sound, which is why he has dubbed himself the Dub Funk King. He churns out so much quality music consistently that it's hard to keep up.
KingZilla ft. BRO BLAKE
I think this is one of those tracks that will take some getting used to. Initially, everything is high quality and bumping just like every other KingZilla track I've heard. You know, DUB FUNK! However, this track didn't jive with me musically right away. Mainly, the vocals and music don't sound like they're even in the same key sometimes, but that's because the song has some distinct sections that change key, almost one after another.
I thought the vocals were out of key with the music, but what I've figured out is that the music keeps transposing, which makes it hard for the musical ear to grab on to the tonal center. I hope that makes sense. That's my main critique of the song... but after the ear gets used to the changes, it makes more sense, and I enjoy it more and more every time I re-listen.
As always, I appreciate the artistic expressions of KingZilla. Probably the best part of the track for me is the drums. KingZilla ALWAYS brings the grooves. Also, I don't think this is a bad song at all. Like I said, it will just take some getting used to.
