NO-BODY Project - Review

The NO-BODY Project has been around for about 5 years. According to the artist, “It started as a fully computerized music experimentation – voices included, and ended up as a true indie/art-rock production that winks to artists like Laurie Anderson or The Residents.” It’s definitely interesting and if you like the style, it’s great! This artist will be enjoyed by people who like trancy/drone styles of music.

The NO-BODY Project

Recently the project has released 3 singles. Like I said, if you’re into this genre then you’re probably going to love them. What’s the style? Well, imagine music, AI. It’s pretty obvious that over the years music has become more electronic. I don’t think I’ve heard music such as this tho. It’s an interesting mix of a groove with some basic instruments underneath a computer-spoken and somewhat sung melody. NO-BODY has created a unique and interesting sound that is all their own.

When “Roads” starts out the music itself isn’t anything that blows me away. In fact, the kick and the bass could use some remixing as there is some peaking. But, when the vocals come in I am intrigued! Now, the composer and/or vocalist could have made the voice totally electronic but there is a melody factor to it that keeps me interested. It’s almost as if there is an artificial intelligence singing to me and I need to stop and listen to what it’s trying to say. It’s quite surreal. It may seem a little monotonous at first but about a minute in the soundscape starts to change. I am fond of the part where the vocalists sing on the flat 7 note. Sounds cool!

“Wine Jug” is a little jazzy. Imagine, AI singing jazz lol. Musically, I enjoy this track. It has a poppy chord progression and it’s an easy listen. The mix and instrumentation are quality also. I think some more vocal melody might help a little too. The computerized voice is cool but imagine if it had a catchy melody? On the other hand, the lyrics are really great. The song starts to build as it progresses which provides some nice musical movement. This is good stuff!

“Daze” is the third single I’m going to talk about. I think this is my favorite out of the three. This song sounds soft and comforting and the vocal is a little more melodic. The music sounds more like an arranged song too rather than just some background grooves to accompany some AI poems. I would recommend NO-BODY maybe explore the more musical options to make their songs more interesting to a more general pop listener. Just my two cents!

On a final note, The NO-BODY Project is a go for me! I recommend you check out their music further and support them on the web. I enjoyed this project. It was a nice little slice of spice for my musical life!
